Please follow all
instructions carefully and complete the application thoroughly for
timely consideration. Since spaces are limited, it is desirable to send
in applications as soon as possible. Email any questions you may have to apip@global.wisc.edu. Applicants may not apply to study
both Arabic and Persian. After indicating the language you wish to study
in section A, please interpret all references in this application to "Arabic/Persian" as referring to your unique language of
study.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; there is no formal application deadline. However, if you submit your application by April 1, 2008, the $25 application fee will be waived.
As applications are completed, decisions on admission to the program will be made.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be high school graduates, preferably with some college experience.
Application Checklist
Complete all portions of the APIP Application for Admission. You may not apply for both
the Arabic and Persian course. After indicating the course you are
applying for in section A of the application, all subsequent
portions of the application asking about Persian/Arabic study should
be answered for the language which you intend to study in our
program.
Official transcripts from each institution of
higher education where you have attended classes and received credit
must be provided in sealed envelopes. You may either have these
transcripts sent to us directly by the institution or include them
with the rest of your application materials.
Arrange for two different recommendations to be
sent by your referees directly to us (see the address in item 5), in
accordance with the instructions on the application form, and in addition to the Language Reference Form (also within the application). You may
wish to provide stamped addressed envelopes to your referees unless
they prefer to use their own envelopes.
There is no special application for financial
aid for either the Arabic or the Persian program. Students at the UW-Madison must apply for financial aid through the
normal channels. Graduate student recipients of Federal Title VI
Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships through their own
institutions or through the UW-Madison may use their
fellowships for this program. Global Studies invites graduate
students from any institution who are either U.S. citizens or
permanent residents to apply for FLAS fellowships for the study of Arabic or Persian in our
program. FLAS applications are due by February 5. For
more information contact UW-Madison
Global Studies.
There is no application fee for this program. No money is due until after you have been admitted.
All application materials should be sent to the
following address:

attend an intermediate level course will be asked to have a
tape-recorded conversation in their language of study with an
interviewer.
Once accepted to the program, all applicants
who are not currently enrolled UW-Madison students will be given
instructions on filling out a simple on-line form establishing their
status as UW-Madison special students.
Please remember that this is an immersion program so as a participant you will need to be committed to the immersion experience.
