Global Studies Outreach
for K-12 Educators

About Us

Global Studies is actively involved in K-12 outreach. By providing educators with the tools to integrate global content into the curriculum, we hope to increase students' awareness of global issues and prepare them for citizenship in an increasingly interconnected world.

Summer Teacher Workshop | 23 to 27 June 2008

Global Studies offers a weeklong teacher workshop in the summer. This year's workshop for k-12 educators will be held 23-27 June 2008 at Lowell Hall on the UW-Madison campus. The workshop, planned in collaboration with the Center for European Studies, will be on New and Emerging Migrations. More information will be available in the coming weeks.

Curriculum Development

Global Studies has developed World Ecosystems Beyond Borders (WEBB): An Environmental Curriculum for Wisconsin Students. This exciting new outreach project seeks to help middle school teachers bring global environmental issues to their science and social studies classrooms. Our innovative curriculum units challenge students to compare environmental issues faced by Wisconsin populations with similar issues faced by communities abroad. Each unit examines a specific environmental issue, such as water quality, dam construction, and wildlife conservation, from local and global perspectives.

Global Studies also collaborates with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the UW-Madison in offering a Masters degree and Advanced Program of Studies Certificate in Global Studies, Teaching, and the Curriculum.

Cosponsoring and Presenting at Conferences

Global Studies co-sponsors and presents at conferences for K-12 educators, such as the International Children's Literature Celebration, International Education Conference and WAMLE (Wisconsin Association for Middle Level Education).

Global Studies -- as a member of the Wisconsin International Outreach Consortium -- will be participated in the 2008 Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies and International Education Conference, held in Madison, 31 March - 1 April 2008.

Teaching Resources/Library

Global Studies provides resources for teaching about global issues. We are currently building a library from which teachers around the state can borrow videos, books, and curriculum guides.
